Tricks to Make Your Small Bedroom Look Larger

With diminishing urban space, large spacious homes are a luxury that a privileged few can afford. With most of us living in tiny apartments with cramped bedrooms, we bring you a few clever tricks to deceive the eye and make your bedrooms look larger.

Lighten Up

One of the oldest tricks of the trade is to lighten up the room. This includes your flooring, your furnishing as well as your wall colours. Just like dark colours have a slimming effect on our bodies, similarly dark wall paint has a constricting effect on rooms. Decor experts suggest that when adding drapes to a room, make sure they’re the same colour as the walls to make the space look bigger.

Clean the Clutter

There’s nothing that makes a small space feel more cramped than a room that is cluttered with items scattered all over the room. A neat and organised room not only gives the illusion of more surface area, it also makes a small room look bigger. Similarly don’t cover the walls with a lot of pictures. One large painting works better than a group of small paintings. If there’s too much going on the walls, it can make the room feel busy and crowded.

Use Mirrors

Mirrors reflect light to make the bedroom look bigger and brighter. You can also use mirrored cabinet doors to make spaces feel large and uncluttered.

Opt for Vertical Storage

Wherever possible opt for vertical storage options, to free up floor space and give the illusion of a larger room.

Furniture with legs

Using furniture where the legs can be seen as opposed to block styled furniture will make the room appear bigger, the logic here being that if you can see the floor, the room will look larger.
