Does Your Home Need Rewiring

Electricity is a powerful tool that enhances our lives in so many different ways, but it can also be dangerous and a cause of fire or lead to electrocution and a potentially fatal accident. One way to avoid this is to ensure that your wires are properly insulated and not deteriorating.  So how do you know if your home needs a rewire?

1) Discolored or charred outlets and switches

When you are checking the wiring of your house the first thing to look out for is discolored or charred switches and outlets. This is the first sign that there is a loose connection or faulty wiring near the outlet or switch. The loose connection or fault usually causes the outlet surface to heat and burn, causing it to char or discolor.

2) Burning smell

A persistent burning smell with no identifiable source is an indicator that you have an electrical short. In this case, it is best to switch off the circuit and call an electrician immediately.

3) Frequent circuit fuses

Pay attention to circuits that fuse on a regular basis. This is often a symptom of an extremely faulty electrical system.

4) Frequent shocks

If you get frequent shocks when plugging in or unplugging devices, it is time to consult an electrician as fast as possible.

5) How long has it been

Experts suggest that every house should get a testing done once every 10 years for faulty connections, damaged wiring and the wiring should be done accordingly.
